El duelo se recibe en Rodriguez Funeral Home de Escobares, TX. Domingo 24 de Noviembre de 6:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m. y partira el cortejo el dia Lunes 25 de Noviembre a las 10:00 a.m. para despedirse en el panteon Starr County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Rodrigo (Rod) Garcia, 95, passed away peacefully at his home in Eagle Pass, TX on November 19th. Mr. Garcia is survived by a wife, Grace Ramirez Garcia, as well as thirteen children from two previous marriages: George Rodrigo, Dolores (Dennis), Juan Antonio (Eunice) , Imelda, Diana (Leeroy), Ella (Rolando), Ida (Ed), Raul (Leonor), Rene, Jose David (Patricia), Jesus Alberto (Cyndi), Rosalinda and Esmeralda (Jody). He also leaves behind 32 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Rodrigo Garcia was born on March 13, 1924 in Runge, TX to Daria Saenz Garcia & Cresencio Garcia and raised alongside his five dear sisters (Francisca Gomez, Dominga Rios, Darita Arredondo, Victoria Trevino and Antonia Saenz) in Rio Grande City. Mr. Garcia “El Rorro” was a member of the greatest generation and served his community and country with a lifetime of public service. As a young man he was a member of the post-depression civilian conservation corps tasked with the development and protection of the Country’s natural resources. Responding to his Nations’ call-to-arms during WWII he enlisted in the Army Infantry Rangers (Private First Class) serving honorably with both fear and courage from 1943-6, he was wounded in battle during Pacific Island combat operations earning several service decorations including the Good Conduct Medal and Meritorious Service Unit Award as well as the Victory, American Campaign and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign ribbons. After completing his service Rodrigo came home to serve the community of Rio Grande through his participation in the Farmworkers labor union “huelga” movement of the 1960’s serving as vice-president, which brought improvements to the working conditions and quality of living to many in the community. Relocating to West-Texas Brownfield City in the early 1970’s, he worked at KCUB radio station providing the early morning Spanish-language program enjoyed by Hispanic audiences in the area. There too, he began a 35 year career with the Texas Workforce Commission as a case-manager and recruiter for Job Corps until his retirement in 1995. In his retirement Rodrigo remained active as a member of the VFW post in Eagle Pass TX and continued to work as a recruiter in the oilfield industry as much as his age and health permitted. During his last years he was accompanied and cared for by his wife Grace, to our everlasting gratitude, until his last moments. May God welcome, forgive, and rest his soul.
We mourn his passing and rejoice his reunion with the rest of his eagerly awaiting loved one’s in the ever after of heaven and God’s light. As his survivors we are grateful and thank him, and all other ancestors, for all their decisions, sacrifices, and successes that have shaped our lives and selves. We are left to wonder his many moments and any dreams that motivated his actions and remain grateful for his life.
A public viewing will be held on Sunday, November 24th from 6 – 9 pm at the Rodriguez Funeral Home at 4989 E US-83, Roma, TX. Services will be held on Monday, November 25th at 10 am at the Starr County Veterans Cemetery in Fronton, TX.
